Its one thing to have a preachy movie. Its another to have a self righteous movie telling you exactly what you already know-like “All Dogs Go To Heaven”.

Now aside from the movie being a steaming pile of “Let’s Get Outraged About Something At The Movie Theatre And Then Go Have Dinner At Olive Garden”, you’ve also got to hand it to Reese Witherspoon to raise the bar of Unwatchability so thoroughly.

Obviously, Meryl Streep didn’t have time to sit the young actress down and give her the first rule of good acting. “Whisper everything.”

I want to be fair. I don’t think that any A list actress, not even Anne Hathaway herself could deliver with any dignity the line: “Just tell me he’s okay!!!!!!”

I can’t wait until the sequel “Sleeper Cell” starring Reese Witherspoon and tackling the difficult and politically charged topic of stem cell research comes out. Reese Witherspoon’s Handsome Arab Husband will get Parkinson’s and Meryl Streep, reprising her role as an asshole Neo-Con, will deny him the ability to use undifferentiated embryonic cells to do research on. It will get me so outraged!

In the Valley of Elah is a story about retired military sergeant (Tommy Lee Jones) trying to find his missing soldier youngest son - Mike, played by Jonathan Tucker (The Black Donnellys). Mike dissapeared after coming back from Iraq and though he is the kind of kid that calls his parents, he didn't tell them that he was back in the US.

This movie connects the viewers to the distress mind state of the soldiers in Iraq. A some what a justification that the sufferings that the Iraqians received (still receiving) in Iraq radiates to the mind of the soldiers. With the American having to ship out soldiers to Iraq, they accepted anybody who has no felony record (eventhough they have crime records) though these soldiers are still young, and not mentally ready to face what is in Iraq.

The Iraq phenomena has seen a lot of perspectives conjured up by Hollywood. While most of the movies concentrate on the actions and how powerful the Americans are and how supposedly how all Muslims support terrorism, this movie showed the psychological effects of these young soldiers. The psychological "aftermath" and how it affected them in their lives.

Lust, Caution (2007)

Although Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution” is only now going into wide release in the United States, much has already been said about the prestigious director’s latest film. Predictably, most of the fleeting attention has flown to the very graphic sex scenes, despite the fact that they don’t occur for quite a while, and on the whole, don’t add up to a great deal of the film’s 157 minute running time. More astute observers have covered even that fact. What hasn’t been said so loudly and so often is that “Lust, Caution” is most effective as a meditative tale of the personal cost of life as a female spy (Tang Wei). But this is not an NC-17 rated James Bond movie. True to Ang Lee’s previous filmography of angst-ridden stories of feminine despair (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, “The Ice Storm”), this entry unravels its protagonist in the most elegant of settings, in a telling so fused with dignity, you can practically see his collection of past awards just off-frame. The trouble this time is that Lee, apparently cashing in his obligatory post-“Brokeback” ticket to do whatever he wants, seems completely absorbed in his own hype. In that sense, it could be thought of as Ang Lee’s “Gangs of New York” or “The Serpent’s Egg”.

Bain records everyday sounds in all parts of the big apple and plays them for her audience accompanied by anecdotes of NYC’s history. Bain and her fiancee are about to get married, but during a romantic evening-walk through central park disaster strikes and Bain changes into what she calls “the other person that had always lived in her but which she had never known about”. Erica becomes a victim of fear, something she thought only happened to weaker people. Getting no help from the authorities, she buys a gun and takes matters into her own hands.

“The brave one” is probably one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. Jodie Foster was, is and will always remain a fantastic actress, New York is a great setting for this type of movies and I just love the “urban” feel you get from viewing movies like this. I’m not quite sure if this movie is giving NYC the credit it deserves. For years and years it has been depicted in almost every single movie as a dangerous, asocial town you better avoid if you don’t really have to be there. Having been to this glorious city for the first time only a bit over a month ago, I know better. I’ve never felt as much at home as I did in NYC. I ignored stoplights, got irritated over people wearing “I (l) NY” shirts (I don’t like tourists, even though I always am one in some way), and have never met that many friendly people in a city.
